Dr. Greg Stanton, the Founder and President of Genocide Watch, and the President of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, created the Eight Stages of Genocide to provide a methodical analysis to predict, and prevent genocides.
The Eight Stages of Genocide are: Classification, Symbolization, Dehumanization, Organization, Polarization, Preparation, Extermination, and Denial.
 
Ethiopia ratified the Genocide Convention on July 1, 1949, the first nation to ratify the Convention.
Ethiopia incorporated the crime of genocide into domestic penal law in 1957 as Article 281 of the Ethiopian Penal Code (see text)
Ethiopia ratified the Geneva Conventions of 1949 on October 2, 1969 and ratified the Additional Geneva Protocols of 1977 on April 8, 1994.
Ethiopia did not sign and has not yet become a party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
